Sisters at Heart: Puppy Mill Survivors Learn to Live at Last

Tessie and Jewel are puppy mill dogs who arrived on our Port Washington, N.Y. campus with one of our steadfast Mobile Rescue teams. The two Yorkies were tired and disheveled from a long journey. They snuggled together to face whatever the future held — at least they had each other. They surely seemed to be sisters-at-heart.

Sabrina’s Struggle to Breathe Easy

At first glance, the Tortie named Sabrina—from a South Carolina rescue—seemed like any other eight-month-old kitten. Then one of our veterinarians noticed she was having a difficult time breathing.  He immediately thought it might be a lung issue and ordered an x-ray to investigate further.

For 10 weeks, our state-of-the-art Mobile Adoption Units traveled through 50 cities in 37 states, promoting the plight of homeless companion animals and collaborating with our shelter partners to facilitate more than 2,000 adoptions!
