53 Dogs and Puppies Transported to Safety During Midwestern Rescue

With the help of National Mill Dog Rescue, a non-profit organization based in Peyton, Colorado, dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating discarded breeding dogs, Animal League America was able to change the world of 53 deserving animals this past weekend.

On a beautiful sun drenched Saturday afternoon, 45 dogs and 8 puppies finally experienced the feeling of the sun on their backs, the cool breeze in their faces, and the warm embrace of people who truly care about their wellbeing. All of these animals were rescued from various commercial breeding facilities in the Midwest, where health, cleanliness, and quality of life are all secondary to profit. Thankfully, all of these four-legged survivors of various ages and breeds are now safe at our Port Washington, N.Y. Adoption Center, ready to receive the complete scope of our nurturing care.

From the time they are carefully removed from the Mobile Rescue Unit by a few of our dedicated volunteers and brought into our Pet Health Centers for their initial medical examinations, up until the day we help them find responsible, loving homes – all of these animals will know what it feels like to be cherished. Our highly skilled veterinarians and veterinary technicians will ensure every animal has a clean bill of health before they are cleared for adoption. If health concerns happen to arise, the medical staff will swiftly construct a treatment plan that will have the patient back on their paws as soon as possible. Whatever it takes to provide our animals with a brand new lease on life, we are going to do it.

Please help us change the world for more animals with a donation to our Rescue Fund.

“These dogs have been through a lot, but they have so much love to give. Having the opportunity to spend some time with them during the drive back to Animal League America, it’s easy to see how grateful they are to be with us. Of course, they are all a little scared and nervous at first, but they can all rest assured knowing there are much brighter days ahead,” said Karla Agostinello, Animal League America Rescue Coordinator. She and Rescue Associate and Mobile Unit Driver, Ted Moriates, were the team members tasked with completing the lifesaving transport from the Midwest back to our no-kill campus.

Some of the breeds on the transport included Shih tzu’s, Pomeranians, Yorkies, Chihuahuas, English Bulldogs, Sharpeis, Pugs, Shiba-Inus, a Yellow Lab, and several other mixed breeds. With your support, we can guarantee that all of these animals receive the second chance they are so deserving of. Many of these dogs will be available for adoption during the kickoff weekend of Animal League America’s 24th Annual Global Pet Adoptathon®! If you are interested in adding a four legged member to your family, join us at our Adoption Center on May 5th and 6th, and adopt your new best friend.
