At our Westhampton, N.Y. satellite campus, you can meet 20+ of our adoptable dogs, who for one reason or another, have had trouble finding the perfect homes. All of these special dogs were rescued from various parts of the world and transported out to this east-end facility so they can receive extra attention and guidance from our skilled Pet Behavior Team and nurturing kennel staff. They work around the clock to develop strong bonds with all of these deserving animals, whose ages range from young adult to senior, in hopes of providing them with the behavioral tools necessary to not only find the right adopter, but to thrive in a responsible, loving home when that day comes.
This sprawling facility provides its four-legged residents with the ideal environment to become the best version of themselves. Multiple fenced-in parks stocked with tennis balls and toys, plastic swimming pools for when the summer heat is in full effect, and even agility courses for dogs to run and play, line the perimeter of the facility. The surrounding area is very quiet – the perfect place for the dogs to let their guard down and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the natural surroundings. And long walks on leash with their favorite humans and stimulating mental and physical exercise is all part of the routine for these dogs.
Another part of their training comes in the “real-life” room, an area set up with chairs, couches, tables, and other household items you’d find in most living rooms. This space allows our dogs to acclimate to cohabitating with humans in a home environment, better preparing them for the time when they have a home of their own. It’s all part of Animal League America’s commitment to going above and beyond to provide better lives for every animal we rescue.
Mike Spiotta, Kennel Manager at Animal League America, said the Westhampton satellite campus is all about providing our animals with everything they need to develop into the highly adoptable pets they were always meant to be.
“Our satellite facility in Westhampton serves a serene retreat for many of our harder-to-place dogs. It gives them the opportunity to relax and get ready for the day when they find a responsible, loving home,” Mike said. “Long walks on trails through the Pine Barrens, exploring two massive dog parks, and enjoying the quiet and cozy indoor spaces with plenty of couch space to curl up and take a nap alongside their favorite people, this facility has been a great asset to us. It’s truly provided these dogs with a low-stress environment to decompress and open up.”
