The mission of The North Country Initiative, at our Adirondack Region Cat Adoption Center, is to operate a no kill adoption center in Warren County, NY. Through the North Country Initiative we reduce euthanasia and the suffering associated with feline overpopulation within Warren County, N.Y. and the communities immediately surrounding. This is being accomplished through rescue, the implementation of spay/neuter programs and through adoption.
We are currently seeking Licensed/License Veterinary Technicians (LVT) to join our mission. The work schedule will be week days/evenings, weekend shift with flexibility to work some holidays. Schedule will depend on applicant’s availability.
The Licensed/License Veterinary Technician is instrumental in assisting to ensure the health and well-being of the animals in our care.
Responsibilities:
- Complete intake procedures (FELV/FIV testing, vaccinate, deflea, deworm, sex, scan for microchip and ringworm, intake weight, intake photo), medical and behavior assessments.
- Identify health concerns and coordinate necessary medical care.
- Develop medical and behavior plans for each feline in our care including those in foster care.
- Coordinate the flow of felines from intake, holding and foster to “ready for adoption” status.
- Perform regular weight checks and nail clipping on resident felines.
- Schedule and coordinate pre-adoption veterinary exams and other veterinary care for those animals in need of medical attention.
- Create medication forms and maintain accurate and up to date habitat forms.
- Administer injectable, oral, topical, eye and ear medications.
- Perform special diet feedings.
- Document treatments in health records.
- Maintain accurate and current animal health records for all animals including those in foster care.
- Submit daily medical updates.
- Educate adopter about special needs cats.
- Various other duties, as assigned.
- Document and tracking of future vaccines and treatments due.
- Maintain proper inventory of medical/intake supplies.

Requirements:
- NYS Veterinary Technician license.
- Must be proficient in all technical skills
- Ability to organize, execute, and report on work activities without direct supervision.
- Must be administratively detailed, proficient in MS Office.
- Strong knowledge of animal welfare: including care, handling, health, and behavior.
- Previous animal-related work experience, with shelter experience preferred.
- Must be mature, responsible, energetic, and able to work well in a team oriented environment .
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and holidays and one weekend day.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume, and demanding work environment.
- Ability to handle and control animals.
- Desire to make a positive difference in the lives of animals and fully support the mission of the NSALA.
