Trying to get my dog back after being rehomed

Question

I rehomed my dog two weeks ago and realize I made a mistake. Can I get him back? He is in a very stressful situation and he looks very unhappy, and I don’t know that he’s being taken care of.

Answer

People who rehome their animal generally have no further rights to that animal. Regrets do not equal rights. It is so very important to carefully consider the decision to rehome an animal before doing so and also to very carefully screen potential adopters/purchasers. Occasionally, new pet “parents” will agree to return an animal if they are not bonded with the animal (sometimes for a fee). I hope this all works out well for this dog.
