I am attached to my friend’s father’s dog.

Question

I got attached to my friend's father's dog. She has never been to the vet and has no papers. The dog is also attached to me. If I take her to the vet, without the father knowing, will she legally be mine, or will there be an issue?

Answer

There will be an issue! Taking someone else’s dog to a veterinarian does not change the dog’s ownership. I hope that you and your friend’s father can work out a pet custody arrangement that is in the best interests of the dog, including getting the dog necessary veterinary care.
