Can Animal Control just take my dog when I am not home?

Question

We had an animal control officer go through our house when we were not home and took our dog. He bit our neighbors dog last week and he filed a complaint. Can they just take my dog when I am not home?

Answer

Animal control officers generally need a warrant to enter a residence unless permission to enter is granted. I suggest you consult with an attorney in your area for possible next steps, including getting your dog back.
