Our Ambassadors
Renée Felice Smith is a lifelong advocate of animal rescue and heartfelt supporter of Animal League America for nearly a decade. When she wasn’t assisting criminal investigations as Nell Jones on CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles, Renée served as Tour For Life Spokesperson (2013). Additionally, Renée and her partner, Chris Gabriel, co-wrote and directed a PSA for the Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum, our educational program that teaches emotional and social skills through the use of rescue animals. They have actively supported a number of other Animal League America initiatives including our Virtual Celebration of Rescue.
As 2021 Walk & Wag Ambassadors, Renée Felice Smith and Chris Gabriel formed Team Hugo along with their dogs Velma (Bullmastiff), Mabel (English Mastiff rescue) and Alfie (Shepherd/ Chihuahua/ Pittie rescue).
“I’m honored to lend my voice to help amplify the plight of the shelter pet, also known as a Mutt-i-gree®,” Renée said. “Animals love unconditionally and bring so much joy into our lives. When you adopt, not only are you saving the life of the animal you take home, you are freeing up space in the shelter for another rescue to be made. Bring home your best friend today!”
The team name honors their former dog/canine son, Hugo, who was the inspiration for their co-authored children’s book, “Hugo and the Impossible Thing” released by Penguin Random House (Spring 2021) and available wherever books are sold. This beautifully written and illustrated book celebrates the fierce determination it takes to overcome major obstacles, much like the journey of the shelter pet, and showcases the power of teamwork. Go Team Hugo!
